Description
Conducted by students in Elaine Maccio's class, Social Work with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender People, these interviews focus on the LGBTQ community in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, from the 1950s to the 2000s. Interviewees describe what it was like to identify as gay at a time when negative stereotypes were pervasive, and discuss the changes they've witnessed as LGBTQ causes have become more mainstream. Interviewees share personal experiences of marriages and relationships, coming out, and recount their involvement and activism in the LGBTQ and Baton Rouge communities whether social, political, religious, or related to HIV/AIDS causes.
