Cary, Sylvester L., 1827-1915. Scrapbook, 1864-1930 (bulk 1872-1915). 1 vol. (on 1 microfilm reel). Location: Mss.Mf:C. Emigration agent for the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, a founder of Jennings, Louisiana, and 'father' of the southwestern Louisiana rice industry. Cary actively solicited Iowa farmers to emigrate to southwestern Louisiana. Newspaper clippings concerning Cary genealogy, rice and fruit tree cultivation, the development of Jennings and southwestern Louisiana, Holstein cattle, farming associations and fairs, national financial issues, and the Southern Pacific Railroad Company. The clippings are pasted over the 1864 accounts of a general store, apparently in Iowa. For further information, see online catalog. Mss. 2337.
