Fordyce Lumber Company. Records, 1904, 1920-1962. 70 microfilm reels. Location: MSS.MF:F. Dr. John Wenzel Watzek, Charles Warner Gates, and Edward Savage Crossett founded the Fordyce Lumber Company at Fordyce, Dallas County, Arkansas in 1890. In the same year and as part of the same investment, the Fordyce & Princeton Railroad Company was organized and laid a track from the Cotton Belt Railroad System to the Fordyce mill one mile away. When the mill was opened the track was extended northward from the mill into the timber for a distance of 221 miles for the purpose of hauling logs. The Fordyce Lumber Company was acquired by Georgia-Pacific Corporation in 1963.
