Monroe lawyer, Louisiana Appeals Court judge (1881-1892), orator, poet, author, educator, and politician. Gunby founded the Louisiana Chautauqua and was active in the 1892 anti-lottery campaign. Collection includes Gunby's manuscript poetry, prose, speeches, papers, and photographs. Published writings deal with the education of African Americans and racial conflicts in the South.
