Guthrie of the Thirteenth U.S. Infantry Regiment accompanying the expedition of Lt. Col. George Alexander Forsyth of the Fourth U.S. Cavalry from Fort Cummings, N.M., against the Apaches between April 18 and May 16, 1882. They were copied in 1915 by Guthrie's son, who also supplied an introduction to the field notes and an appendix on the Apaches. The field notes include accounts of conflict with Apaches, a foray into Mexican territory, and an encounter with Mexican soldiers. Mss. 3738.
