Kinney, John C. (John Coddington), d. 1891. Letters, 1862-1864. 10 items. Location: Misc:K. Yale University graduate and Union officer in the 13th Connecticut Regiment during the Civil War. Letters provide detailed descriptions of his military service on Ship Island, in occupied New Orleans, and under General Grover during the Red River Expedition. They include observations on federal generals and Thibodaux, Louisiana, skirmishes. Two letters describe Kinney's assignment, training, and duties in the Signal Corps.
