Leavenworth, Melinas C., 1796-1862. Letter, 1837 Sept. 2. 1 letter. Location: Misc. Melinas C. Leavenworth was a botanist and an assistant surgeon in the U.S. Army between 1833 and 1840. Leavenworth, stationed at Camp Sabine near present-day Many, La., writes to Dr. John Torrey, the noted botanist of New York City, regarding his recent observation and collection of Louisiana flora.
