The St. James Regiment was formed as a part of the Louisiana Militia of the Confederate Army during the American Civil War (1861-1865). This collection contains a partially printed document appointing Victor Forstall as "Major of the St. James Regiment" of the Militia of Louisiana, dated April 7, 1861, signed by Governor Thomas Moore and Secretary of State Pliny D. Hardy. It also contains 14 manuscript muster rolls for companies A,B,C,D,E, and F of the St. James Regiment, dated April 1861 through March 1862, which were written in English and/or French.
