Mary Lyon-Coxe, born Mary Hamilton, was the widow of Captain James Lyon who died in 1775 while serving in the 35th regiment of foot in the British military.  This is a personal letter from Mary Lyon-Coxe dated October 14, 1808 and addressed to "your Royal Highness" offering the use of her cottage within five miles of Portsmouth by Gosport and nine miles by Portchester. The letter also mentions that her son, Lieutenant Colonel Lyon, is well and serving in Portugal. Mss. 822.
