Madison, Lewis. Certificate of freedman Jim Allen, 1841 March 5. 1 item. Location: Misc:M. Justice of the Peace for Jefferson County, Kentucky. Jim Allen was a freedman. Certificate attesting that Jim Allen was held in the Jefferson County jail as a runaway slave from November 1839-February 1840. The document certifies that Allen had been held and discharged from a New Orleans jail in August 1839, having 'free papers.' The certificate is addressed to B.
