In letters to Gilbert Jackson of New York, John Mills refers to a slave insurrection and the indigo harvest (1795). He discusses the treatment of slaves, destruction of the cotton crop by the cut worm, and the considerable amount of commerce on the Mississippi River (May 19, 1807).
