Description
Morgan, Thomas Gibbes, Jr., 1837-1864. Letters, 1863. 2 items. Location: Misc:M. Confederate captain in the 7th Louisiana Infantry. Enlisted June 1861 at Camp Moore; was captured; November 1863; and died in Johnson's Island Prison, Ohio, January 1864. Morgan's letters were written to his cousin, Morris Barker Morgan of Providence, Rhode Island, from Old Capitol Prison, Washington D.C., and Johnson's Island Prison. Letters relate Morgan's need for money and clothing, his desire to see his wife and children, pessimism about the release of prisoners, and appreciation for the help of his Northern relatives.
