He was a war prisoner and detained by the Union Army on Morris Island in South Carolina. The letter and booklet include one letter to General John E. Roller from J. Ogden Murray referencing Murray's booklet, Jefferson Davis: A Short Story of the Confederate Soldier, the Ideal Soldier of the World (1911), which is also included. Mss. 5135.
