His wife, Pauline Wright Nichols, studied art and design at Newcomb School of Art and the Chicago Art Institute. After they married, she continued her design work. Correspondence, printed items, financial papers, legal documents, memoirs, journals, pedagogical materials, and photographs document the professional, business, and personal lives of the Nichols family, primarily Irby C. and Pauline Nichols. Sketches and other graphic materials reflect the artistic career of Pauline Nichols. Mss. 3798.
