Nolan was closely associated with General James Wilkinson and may have been reared in his family. A letter to Nolan by General Wilkinson from Frankfort, Kentucky, relates Wilkinson's misfortune and requests Nolan's assistance. A letter from Nolan to Bernard Lintot pertains to Nolan's financial status and his wish to marry Lintot's daughter. Included is a list of horses sold by Nolan to individuals in Natchez.
