Pinckney Benton Stewart Pinchback was governor of Louisiana between Dec. 9, 1872 and Jan. 13, 1873. He was the first African American to become governor of a U.S. state. These two photographic portraits of P.B.S. Pinchback are from circa 1875 and circa 1900. Mss. 4152.
