Description
Retif, P. E. Letters, 1864. 2 items. Location: Misc:R. Confederate soldier and member of the Orleans Guard Battery during the Civil War. He became a prisoner of war and was paroled from Greensboro, North Carolina, in April 1865. Letters written to Retif's mother from Charleston, South Carolina, express concerns about his family and his views on the war. Retif also implies that the letters are being smuggled through Union-controlled areas.
