River lock worker (1931-1961) and resident of Plaquemine, Louisiana. Rivet recalls drownings at the Plaquemine locks on the Mississippi River, the sinking of the steamboat Andes, and his work in the mechanical operation of moving boats through the locks. Rivet describes flood control, high waters, and repair of leaks. Rivet also describes precautions taken to protect the locks during World War II. For further information, see online catalog.
