Russell, J. Letter, 1863 April 17. 1 item. Location: Misc. Union soldier in the Illinois Infantry during the Civil War. Letter to friends describes an expedition through Mississippi led by General Frederick Steele and mentions Union objectives, destruction and confiscation of Confederate property, and the attitude of Union soldiers toward contraband slaves.
