Sharkey, William Lewis. Letter, 1868 Sept. 8. 1 letter. Location: Misc:S. William Lewis Sharkey was a Mississippi State Representative (1828-1829), a justice of the Mississippi Supreme Court (1832-1851), and Provisional Governor of Mississippi (1865). Sharkey writes to B.R. Curtis regarding the constitutionality both of an act imposing a 3-cent tax on a pound of cotton and the composition of the U.S. Congress, as some Southern States had been denied representation.
