Shelly, William. Diary, 1863 January 1-September 23. 1 vol. Location: Misc:S. Union soldier in the 176th New York Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. Shelly served for nine months and was stationed primarily in Louisiana. Diary entries discuss Shelly's sea voyage from New York to Louisiana; his work in the Quartermaster department; his arrival at Lafourche; guerrilla activity in the area; the sound of fighting at Port Hudson; and the capture and parole of his company.
