  • Hamilton-Barrow Family Papers, 1781-1965. 0.3 linear ft. Location UU:253. Financial papers, legal documents, and correspondence of Bennett I. (James) Barrow, a plantation owner in West Feliciana Parish, and his descendents. Documents concern land claims and disputes in West Feliciana Parish, while personal correspondence pertains to family history, and includes letters during both the Civil War and World War II.   • Harding Field Heroes File, 1941-1946 (bulk 1944-1945). 2.5 linear feet. Location: 78:48-50, OS:H, Room 304. Harding Field was a United States Army Air Corps base located nine miles north of Baton Rouge, La., that operated between 1941 and 1945. From February 1944 to March 1945, Colonel W.G. Schauffler Jr. (1891-1951) was the commanding officer at Harding Field. In June 1944, Col. Schauffler was informed that his only son had been killed in action over the Pacific theater which led directly to the development of the Harding Field Heroes File. The collection includes letters, photographs, and newspaper clippings solicited by Col. Schauffler and sent by next of kin of pilots who graduated from Harding Field. The collection also contains newspaper clippings about the airbase which range from the establishment of the base in 1941 to its decommissioning in 1945. It contains 51 photographs of groups of pilots, individual portraits, and pinning ceremonies. It also contains a casualty list and a painting with the "72 Fighter Wing" emblem. Mss. 0893.

LSU President (1944-1947), History Department faculty member, and long-time Superintendent of East Baton Rouge Parish Schools. Consists of correspondence, photographs, and other personal and administrative records from Hatcher's career as an educator, administrator, and community fixture. Family papers include correspondence, sermons, and writings, and other family letters and legal documents related to the drugstore business. Correspondence reflects student life before and after WWI. Personal papers consist primarily of correspondence (some in German) relating to his need to leave Germany and obtain a position in the U.S. Professional papers include correspondence with sociologists and colleagues world-wide, research on displaced persons in Mississippi and Louisiana, social problems in Germany, German immigration, and World War II, as well as his comments on Naziism. Records consist of administrative files (1915-1919), clippings related to WWI and the Baton Rouge Municipal Centenary, and the papers of Philemon Thomas and Colonel George Morgan. Papers of Philemon Thomas concern the construction of a memorial tablet. Papers of Col. Morgan [photocopies] include his commission as Agent of Indian affairs (Apr 10, 1776), letter from the Marquis de Lafayette to George Washington, and a letter by Thomas Jefferson commenting on Colonel Morgan's loyalty in the Burr Conspiracy (1822). In letters to Lee Odom, Hull relates his experiences and observations while traveling throughout south Louisiana. He comments on sawmill towns, oil fields, damage from hurricanes in New Orleans and Johnson’s Bayou, La. He discusses the draft and reports on the construction at Camp Beauregard. A Shreveport attorney and state legislator, he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1973 and retired in 1996. In addition to energy and defense, Senator Johnston focused on navigation, flood control, hurricane protection, and other natural resources programs. Primarily records of his Senate career, including correspondence, trip files, records of his administrative and legislative assistants, legislative files, papers related to Louisiana grants and projects, speeches, news releases and photographs, and committee files. Also found are papers related to his campaigns and the Democratic Party as well as the annual Washington Mardi Gras ball and the Mystick Krewe of Louisianians. Mss. 4473.

Member of the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and later a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve from Canton, Mississippi. Collection consists of correspondence and personal papers documenting primarily the lives of Jones and his family. Correspondence discusses news regarding Canton, World War II, the Jones family's drug store, George's wellbeing and duties, and other family members and friends.   • Kidd, W. P. (William P.), 1894-1947. Papers, 1872-1942 (bulk 1916-1923). 53 items, 9 vols. Location: UU:126, OS:K, 99:K. Native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Served in the 42nd Division, A.E.F. during WWI; he later served on the Mexican border. Papers relate to Kidd's military experiences in Europe during WWI. They contain photographs, printed material, and maps. Maps show British, French, Italian and American font lines. Newspaper clippings describe draft lists for Baton Rouge and victory parades for returning soldiers. Other items include Gen. Pershing's farewell to the 'Rainbow Unit;' histories of Camp Nicholls, the 1st Louisiana Infantry, the 39th Infantry Division, U. S. A., and a WWII Army Emergency Relief Fund benefit program. Cotton planters of Clinton, East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, and proprietors of Clinton Brick and Tile Company and the East Louisiana Land Investment Company. Letters (1861-1863) from Granville L. Alspaugh to his mother describe his service in the Confederate Army at Vicksburg. Papers (1851-1893) also reflect social, personal, and business matters, including the sale of cotton through factors in New Orleans. Letters of Robert Granville Knox (1890-1899) describe student life at Louisiana State University, his partnership in a drugstore in Hammond, La., and his participation in the Spanish American War, with Roosevelt's Rough Riders. Later correspondence (1900-1921) include letters written to Miss Elise Walker by soldiers during World War I.
