Grand Isle Hotel. Account books, 1879-1898. 7 items, 4 vols. Location: Misc:G, G:6. Hotel in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, and probably owned by John F. Kranz, the president of the Crescent City Ice Company of New Orleans. Collection includes a cashbook, a ledger, a guest register, bills, and receipts of the hotel. The cashbook of Kranz contains accounts with fishing boats (or 'smacks') and fish dealers, and related accounts of expenses for fishing gear, bait, and ice. Gras-Lauzin family. Papers, 1783-1917 (bulk 1783-1866). 1 linear ft. Location: U:267. Don Antonio Gras was an early settler, merchant, and shipper of Baton Rouge and Natchez, Mississippi. Others in the family included Lewis Valentin Foelekel and Dr. Jean Lauzin. Papers include financial records of Antonio Gras and Lewis Foelekel; a thesis of Dr. Jean Lauzin (Paris, 1832); and personal letters from friends of the Lauzin family who lived in France. Lumber company chartered in Pennsylvania in 1902, and owners of land, a sawmill, and other timber-related industries in Bogalusa, Washington Parish, Louisiana. William H. Sullivan was vice-president of the company (1905-1929) and mayor of Bogalusa. Collection contains photographs of buildings, machinery, and operations of the Great Southern Lumber Company and its subsidiary, the Bogalusa Paper Company; post cards; publications; and paper specimens. Haas, Samuel. Daybooks, 1892, 1906-1907. 2 volumes. Location: N:1. Jewish merchant born in Alsace, France. Daybooks contain records of merchandise sold at Haas' general store in Bayou Chicot, originally located in St. Landry Parish and then Evangeline Parish once the latter was created. Items sold include soap, nails, matches, tobacco, clothing, food, seeds, and tableware. Entries include customers' names, prices of sales, amounts of item sold, and calculations. Mss. 3942, 3960.

Haas, Samuel. Letterpress copybook, 1886-1887. 1 volume [on microfilm reel]. Location: MSS.MF:H. Born in Alsace, France and of Jewish descent. He immigrated to the United States around 1852 and operated a store in Bayou Chicot, Evangeline Parish. Letters are primarily to business associates and to friends in Avoyelles, Rapides, and (at that time) St. Landry parishes and New Orleans. A few personal letters, mainly to family members, are present. The book discusses contributions from residents in St. Landry Parish for the Jewish Widows and Orphans Home in New Orleans and for the rebuilding of a synagogue in Ingville, Germany. Hackett, Horatio B. Receipt, 1846. 1 receipt. Location: MISC:H. Horatio Balch Hackett was born in Salisbury, Massachusetts, December 27, 1808. This is a receipt dated June 18, 1846 stating that the remainder of money due from John Ruggles for one quarter of the sale of real estate of the late Reverend Benjamin Wadsworth, $315.29, has been received by H. B. Hackett. The receipt also states that one fourth of all rent from said real estate has been received except from William Perley and Nelson Gardner, and that Mr. Hackett is due one quarter of said rents if they are ever collected. Peter Hall (1751-1842), son of Henry Hall (1712-1785) and Joanna Sargent Hall (1715-1793), was born in Chester, Rockingham, New Hampshire on June 9, 1751 and was a member of the Presbyterian parish church in Chester. This is two copies of a letter dated June 25, 1850 from Abel G. Quigg concerning the succession of Peter Hall of Chester, Rockingham, New Hampshire. Mr. Quigg was chairman of a committee tasked with granting Henry Hall his share of real estate previously owned by the late Peter Hall. Mss. 822.
