Entries report names of American ships, descriptions of cargo, and accounts of individuals including James Monroe and Thomas Pinckney. Native of New York who was a surgeon in the hospital of the Corps d'Afrique at Port Hudson, Louisiana, and later an agent of the Freedmen's Bureau. Papers, correspondence, and records of Dr. Slauson. Volumes include a visit book kept at Hornsby, New York, and a medical visit book listing Dr. Slauson's visits in Detroit, Michigan, and Port Hudson, Louisiana.
