  • Wartelle, A. L. Account book, 1826-1839. 1 vol. Location: J:6. Account book of Pierre Gabriel Wartelle contains records of charges for small household goods, tobacco, cosmetics, cloth, articles of clothing, and other items probably sold at a plantation store near Moundville Plantation in Washington, St. Landry Parish, La. The account book was later used as a scrapbook by A.L. Wartelle, who pasted clippings of newspaper articles and poems on the some of the first and last pages of the volume, covering up some of the original account notations.   • Washburn, W. W. Washburn & Hesler ledger, 1861-1862. 1 vol. Location: M:19.W. W. Washburn and J. J. Hesler were Confederate sutlers for the 7th Louisiana Regiment at Manassas, Virginia, during the Civil War. Indexed ledger containing accounts of merchandise purchased by officers and soldiers. Entries list the price and type of merchandise purchased, Washburn and Hesler's expenses, profits and losses, and freight accounts.   • Washington Hall Hotel. Ledger, 1832-1834. 2 items, 1 vol. Location: G:7. Hotel probably in East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, kept by John Morgan. Each entry gives the name of the account, the date and purpose for which charges were made, and the date payment was received. Letters to the Troy Cotton and Woolen Manufacturing Company of Fall River, Massachusetts, pertain to the expectation of a revival in the Mexican trade, and to prices paid for cotton, particularly from the Red River area. Waters & Co., and the Bay State Sugar Refinery. These records primarily concern his association with John F. Banchor and Abigail P. Banchor, as well as other business affairs.   • Webber, Benjamin Franklin, d. 1940. Ledger, 1911-1941. 1 vol. (on microfilm) Location: Mss. Mf.:W Storekeeper of Montpelier, Clay County, Mississippi.   • Webre-LeBlanc Family Papers, 1820-1986 (bulk 1912-1936). 0.5 linear ft. Location: 40. The Webre and LeBlanc family members owned and operated many plantations and general stores in south Louisiana. The Desire LeBlanc Plantation was known for producing perique tobacco, and his daughter Alcidie was a sugar farmer with her husband Louis S. Webre. Edward C. Webre was one of the first graduates of the Audubon Sugar Institute, and Frank Sevin worked for the Webre-Steib Co. Ltd. which operated the Golden Ridge Plantation. The Webre-LeBlanc Family Papers consist of correspondence, receipts, photos, ledgers, and genealogy information. These papers document the Webre-LeBlanc family ties and business interactions from 1820 to 1968. Mss. 4145.

Letter reports poor business conditions in Louisiana and comments on the possibility of racial conflict because of the determination of the whites to rule the state.   • Wescott, Joseph. Letter, 1832 Dec. 28. 1 letter. Location: Misc. Joseph Wescott in New Orleans, La., writes to Messrs. Welherley & Jarvis, merchants of Castine, Me., and owners of the ship "Canavec," regarding the ship's voyage from Maine to New Orleans, the prices being fetched for their goods, and the conditions of some individual crewmen.   • West Indies land and property records, 1798-1883. 14 items. Location: Map Cage: Map Case 14, Drawers 5-6. Selected public documents reflecting land tenure mainly in the Parish of Vere, Jamaica, principally for George Radcliff, a sugar planter (1809-1839). Other documents pertain to lands in the West Indies and include a conveyance (1798) for the sale of a plantation, slaves, and livestock on the island of Antigua and a mortgage and lease for two coffee plantations in the colony of Berbice, British Guiana (1813). Additionally, one item documents the surrender of the charter of the Levant Company (1825), a group of British merchants trading in the eastern Mediterranean area, particularly with Turkey.   • Whipple, William. Papers, 1794-1958 (bulk 1920-1958). 2.25 linear ft., 15 volumes. Location: R:3-4, OS:W. Sugar technologist and professor of steam engineering at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. Printed material, which comprises the majority of this collection, correspondence, photographs, and records of the Cinclare Center (sugar) Factory of West Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana. Printed items relate to cotton production, sugar manufacturing, the sugar industry, engineering, and the U.S Military. Photographs include images of sugar mills, travel to Cuba, the Panama Canal, and the Mississippi River floods of 1912 and 1927. Of particular interest is a picture postcard of an African-American man hanging from a road sign in West Baton Rouge Parish. Mss. 1899.

Babin and located in White Castle, Iberville Parish, Louisiana. Papers include correspondence, bills, and receipts recording sales. Articles and printed pamphlets about the moss industry are included along with a list of moss ginneries in Louisiana and materials related to the White Castle Farmers' Cooperative, Inc. Manuscript volumes include ledgers, sales records, rent records, journals, ledgers of the company's accounts at the Whitney National Bank, and a notebook containing invoices. Letterbook containing family and business letters dealing with sugar planting, processing, and slavery; politics; support for a university in Louisiana; and the planning and construction of the State Capitol Building in Baton Rouge. Volume containing invoices, statements of accounts, receipts for payments, and letters of acknowledgment for goods from wholesale merchants, chiefly in New Orleans. Dr. Whitman Wilcox Sr. of Albany, N.Y., was a well-known physician and sugar planter of West Feliciana Parish, La. This medical daybook contains entries giving names of patients, services, and fees by Dr. Whitman Wilcox Sr. in West Feliciana Parish for the period 1854-1876. It contains credit accounts for individual customers of a dry goods merchant and blacksmith, possibly Whitman Wilcox Jr. at Bayou Sara, for the period 1883-1886. Mss. 4049.
