Photograph album (all pages are loose) depicts life for U.S. Army nurses and soldiers at Camp Beauregard and possibly Camp Livingston in Rapides Parish and Grant Parish, Louisiana. Black and white photographic prints of note show troops marching (pages 1-2), nurses posing in front of airplanes (page 1-2), nurses posing in front of a Red Cross truck (page 4), nurses and soldiers posing in front of a Regal Beer truck (pages 4 and 7), a soldier suffering from the effects of poison ivy (page 7), the Camp Beauregard water tower (page 8), nurses outside of the Camp Beauregard Club (page 10), and other scenes of camp life. Dr. Whitman Wilcox Sr. of Albany, N.Y., was a well-known physician and sugar planter of West Feliciana Parish, La. This medical daybook contains entries giving names of patients, services, and fees by Dr. Whitman Wilcox Sr. in West Feliciana Parish for the period 1854-1876. It contains credit accounts for individual customers of a dry goods merchant and blacksmith, possibly Whitman Wilcox Jr. at Bayou Sara, for the period 1883-1886. Mss. 4049.

He informs her that her husband died of yellow fever while at sea. The letter describes his activities before setting sail and his fear of contracting the disease. During the Civil War he organized the Red River Rebels, which became part of the First Louisiana Regiment. Wise owned Grand Bend Plantation on the Red River. Withers, John. Diaries, 1856-1862. 3 vols. (on microfilm). Location: Mss. Mf.:W United States Army officer. Diaries reflect Withers' military service as a career officer. He discusses his military service, social and personal life, religion, travel by steamer to Portland and Vancouver, and occasional problems with the Yakama Indians. Additionally, he comments on the political crisis in South, Abraham Lincoln's inauguration, and his resignation from the U.S. Army in order to support the Confederate cause.
