  • Roy, John. Diary excerpts,, 1860-1862. 13 typescript leaves. Location: Misc.:R. Assistant superintendent of construction for the U.S. Custom House in New Orleans and Confederate captain in the Civil War. This typescript of excerpts from Roy's diary includes entries from April 1860 to February 1861, including the construction of the Custom House and Post Office and his service in the Civil War.   • Roy, V. L. (Victor Leander), 1871-1968. Volumes, 1894-1913 (bulk 1894-1904). 7 vols. Location: H:12. Native of Mansura, Louisiana, an early graduate of LSU, and a Louisiana educator for nearly forty-six years. Roy was Louisiana's first agriculture agent. He formed the Corn Club, a youth agriculture group which developed into the 4-H club. Collection consists of Roy's personal diary and notebooks. Entries in the diary are concerned primarily with his activities in New Orleans, and his attendance at Tulane Graduate School, Marksville Academy, and Southwestern Louisiana Institute.   • Samuelson, Hyman, 1919- . Papers, 1936-2007. 3 linear ft. Location: X:16-18. Correspondence, diaries, personal narratives, military records, photographs, and illustrations reflect the life of a young Jewish man while attending Louisiana State University and his military experiences while serving in New Guinea in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, 96th Battalion. They relate his academic and social activities in college and difficulties encountered as part of an engineering regiment of African American troops. Samuelson discusses military bureaucracy, troop morale, discipline, engineering projects, and tropical diseases. Throughout the diaries, he tells of his personal growth and his interpersonal relationships, especially with Dora Reiner. He also refers to damaged caused by a severe storm in the Pacific, probably Typhoon Helen. Mss. 4934.

Letter to the mayor of Warren, Maine, written as honorary president of the New Orleans World's Panama Exposition Company, listing the advantages of New Orleans over San Francisco as site of the planned exposition and requesting the mayor's support.
