Gayarré giving an account of the career of noted Protestant Episcopal clergyman, Francis L. Hawks, while in New Orleans, La.   • Geo. Limerick & Co. Letter: Vicksburg, Miss., to Lockhart, Fearn and Donegan, Madisonville, Miss., 1842 March 19. 1 item (2 leaves). Location: Misc:G. Shipping company which operated along the Mississippi River, with ports in New Orleans and Vicksburg, Mississippi. It shipped cotton to the Madisonville, Mississippi, merchants Mr. Lockhart, Mr Fearn, and Mr. Donegan. Letter to Lockhart, Fearn, and Donegan denies responsibility for water damage to bales of cotton the company took aboard its ship Vicksburg. A blank contract with Victor Marziou & Co. of Paris gives the terms, conditions, provisions, and cost for German passengers and crew for a voyage from Havre to either New York or New Orleans in the 1850s. A list of those reporting in Bavaria intending to sail with Strecker, Klein & Stoeck between April 1852 and April 1853 gives the name, town, and country of the applicant; the ages and number in the family; the name and residence of the agent; and the sum due from the applicant for passage.   • Gibson, Randall Lee, 1832-1892. Papers, 1848-1891. 164 items. Location: A:56. Confederate general, New Orleans lawyer, U.S. representative and senator from Louisiana. Early papers reflect student life at Yale University. Civil War papers include orders, general reports, and casualty reports. Letters discuss movements of troops at the Battle of Shiloh and Mobile Bay, Ala. Letter from his sister describes New Orleans in 1861. Later papers consist of business record, mortgages and leases for various plantations. Papers include passports, a discharge from military service, and correspondence, among it a letter from Dulisse Alleye recalling two years spent in prison with Girault. Native of France and planter of St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, and nephew of Nicholas Girod, first elected mayor of New Orleans. Joseph Girod's brother, Francois Girod, lived in Paris, France, and New Orleans. Papers include letters from Francois Girod, some of them related to the estate of Nicholas Girod, which provided for the aid of New Orleans orphans of French parentage. Gordon, Forstall, and Co. were merchants in New Orleans, La. with in Mexico that dealt in items such as sugar and woolens. Manuscript copies of multiple letters and financial statements from 1832 exchanged between the merchants representing Gordon, Forstall, and Co. in Mexico, and the office in New Orleans refer to stock status, account information, foreign relations, poor sales, the political climate in Mexico, and how smugglers and imposed taxes by the local government were making business increasingly difficult.
