Civil War diaries record his experiences and duties in Georgia and Tennessee; atrocities committed by federal troops; his conversations with Confederate officers Hood, Johnston, and Stephen Lee; and his views on P. G. T. Beauregard. Quintard's post-Civil War diaries record trips in the United States and Europe, persons visited, and events and ceremonies attended. Charles Reynard was a law professor at Louisiana State and an advocate of desegregation in Louisiana schools. Marian Reynard Baun was a psychology professor and community activist in Baton Rouge.   • Rosedown Plantation Restoration. Photograph collection, 1961-1962. 0.5 linear ft. (650 photographs and safety negatives). Location: A:98. The main house at Rosedown Plantation was built (1834-1835) by cotton planter Daniel Turnbull in West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, near St. Francisville. In 1956 Catherine Fondren Underwood purchased the plantation and began extensive renovation. Chiefly photographs and negatives taken in 1961 and 1962 by Louis 'Red' Martel, documenting the restoration work carried out at Rosedown Plantation. Medical doctor of St. Francisville, West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, and state representative in the 1870s-1880s. The related Wade and Brandon families also lived in West Feliciana Parish. Dr. Ryland's two medical journals contain entries listing names of patients, slaves treated, and medicine and treatments prescribed. Wade and Brandon family papers include bills and receipts for household supplies and letters discussing cotton prices. Collection includes a letter from a Confederate chaplain in Virginia to his sister relating the needs and care of Confederate soldiers. For further information, see online catalog. Correspondence, diaries, personal narratives, military records, photographs, and illustrations reflect the life of a young Jewish man while attending Louisiana State University and his military experiences while serving in New Guinea in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, 96th Battalion. They relate his academic and social activities in college and difficulties encountered as part of an engineering regiment of African American troops. Samuelson discusses military bureaucracy, troop morale, discipline, engineering projects, and tropical diseases. Throughout the diaries, he tells of his personal growth and his interpersonal relationships, especially with Dora Reiner. He also refers to damaged caused by a severe storm in the Pacific, probably Typhoon Helen. Mss. 4934.

  • Sermon, Christ the Church's Beloved, 1769. 1 sermon. Location: 31:. A sermon titled Christ the Church's Beloved written by an unnamed author and preached on May 7, 1769 at an unnamed church in Branford. The sermon starts with a reading from "Solomon's Songs" 5:16, which is also known as the Song of Songs 5:16. There is a recurring reference to the phrase "This is my beloved" throughout the text, describing Christ and the Church, and the sermon includes references to several other biblical passages in its text.
