Waybills for freight and packages shipped on the steamboats William Jones, Jr. in 1857, the Alice Vivian in 1860, the St. Nicholas in 1861, the Lotus No. 2 in 1877, and the Steamer Mary in 1883. The waybills show the type and amount of freight, the fee charged, and, in the case of the Mobile-bound Wm. Jones, Jr., the destination of the steamboat. For further information, see online catalog. There are no restrictions on reproduction of these images for personal use. All but four (4) of the images in this collection are reproductions for which LSU Libraries does not hold originals. Confederate veteran, Baton Rouge banker, and Louisiana state auditor who collected these photographs by Andrew David Lytle, a Baton Rouge photographer. Collection contains various photographic media. Included are cabinet cards and prints of etchings of Louisiana governors (ca. 1816-1904), cabinet cards of LSU officials and cadets, and 8x10 enlargements of photographs of steamboats. Mortician and furniture dealer of Natchez; and owner of Edler Grove Plantation at Bunch's Bend, Carroll Parish, Louisiana. Collection includes daybooks related to the mortuary business, ledgers and inventories related to the furniture business, and a plantation diary and record books. He served as the chairman of the board of Sucrest Corporation (formerly the American Molasses Company) of New York, New York. The collection contains manuscripts and printed materials pertaining to the planting, production, and processing of sugarcane; domestic and international trade and commerce in sugar, molasses, and rum; the slave trade and slave labor.
