  • Koch, Christian D. Family Papers, 1829-1912 (bulk 1845-1900). 3,526 items, 24 vols. Location: U:186-195, H:14. Koch family was of Danish descent and settled near Pearlington, Hancock County, Mississippi. Christian Koch was a master of a schooner. Early correspondence describes farm life and operating a schooner on the Pearl River and along the Gulf Coast. Civil War letters describe the privations of war, and later papers detail the family's movements in Montana. H.P.G. Koch, nephew of Christian, discusses how a German Jew passenger was the butt of jokes and fined $5 for smoking on the wharf in Charleston, South Carolina. For further information, see online catalog.   • Landreth, John. Field notes book, 1819. 1 volume. Location: M:19. Surveyor. Volume contains Landreth's field notes (January-April 1819), created during his survey expedition for live oak and red cedar timber lands in Louisiana, for a commission from the United States Navy. Daily field notes include notations of directions and distances traveled, landmarks sighted, and short narrative descriptions of daily events and people met. Locations described include Franklin, St. Martinville, New Orleans, and a variety of bayous, lakes, and waterways. Mss. 5386.

Lant, originally from Evansville, Ind., was appointed chief engineer of the Louisiana State Highway Department in 1946. The collection consists of five aerial photographic prints of Louisiana bridges, four aerial photographs of highway overpasses, and six aerial photographs of wooded scenes. Mss. 3844.

Orleans Parish native and 44th governor of Louisiana from 1936-1939. Collection is comprised of Leche's gubernatorial papers, which include chiefly office files of correspondence and a variety of printed materials; pre-gubernatorial and gubernatorial campaign papers; post-gubernatorial papers; and a variety of other materials, in large part photographic items and scrapbooks, spanning the three aforementioned eras. Location: MISC:L. Quartermaster general for the British Army stationed at Fort Royal in Martinique during the British occupation of French islands. Diary (January 14-March 13, 1795) kept by Leigh while on the islands of Martinique and Grenada. Entries provide information concerning army and navy procedures relative to the handling of prisoners, the opening of ports to American vessels, the state of the militia at Martinique, the customs of the French people, and the destruction of property caused by French patriots on the island. Included with the diary are copies of two letters, one from Leigh to Sir I. Vaughan (March 13, 1795). Part of the West Indies Collection. Mss. 658.

  • Leverich, Charles P. Correspondence, 1834-1847. 81 items. Location: A:56. Factor of New York City associated with J. H. Leverich and Company of New Orleans. Correspondence consists of letters from New Orleans merchants, factors and Louisiana and Mississippi planters discussing the sguar trade. Letters from St. Mary Parish planters refer to shipping sugar and other cargo, a mortgage on Leonidas Polk's plantation, floods, and the parish's health. Letter from William J.   • Leverich, William. Letter, 1841 Oct. 7. 1 item. Location: Misc.:L. Cotton and sugar planter of West Feliciana and Lafourche parishes. Leverich discusses business loans and the repayment of these loans in cotton and sugar, and he mentions the debts owed by the estate of Judge Mathews. Morgan, a 19th-century English actor in the United States; railroad transportation in the United States; the American Civil War; and Lieutaud's own literary works and his work as an art and manuscript dealer.
