Papers of Philemon Thomas concern the construction of a memorial tablet. Papers of Col. Morgan [photocopies] include his commission as Agent of Indian affairs (Apr 10, 1776), letter from the Marquis de Lafayette to George Washington, and a letter by Thomas Jefferson commenting on Colonel Morgan's loyalty in the Burr Conspiracy (1822). U.S Army general, military aide to President Herbert Hoover (1929-1933), president of Louisiana State University (1941-1944). The collection consists mostly of military medals and ribbons (undated). The collection also includes Campbell Hodges's appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point (June 10, 1899) and his diploma (June 11, 1903). Additionally, a letter describing a party hosted by the Italian ambassador is included (June 10, 1924). The letter is written on the back of the ambassador's invitation (June 9, 1924). Mss. 893.

The diaries provide insight into daily life in rural North Louisiana at the latter part of the 19th century through to the mid-20th. They also relate the military career of Campbell Blackshear Hodges. Diaries are comprised of personal entries, cash accounts, and records on chicken and egg production, garden plants ordered and planted, and clothing and linens produced. Mss. 3873.

James, a Louisiana farmer, was the son of J. G. and Almena L. Perkins Kilbourne. Letters primarily written by Emma to James prior to their marriage describe events at Centenary College; visits to LSU; family; and friends including James O. Fuqua. Civil War entries pertain to patrols, and infractions and crimes committed by him and other sailors, drunkenness, interaction with female civilians, witnessing a baptism of African-Americans in the Mississippi River, and recreational activities in Baton Rouge.   • Holt, Charles Alfred, 1820-1891. Papers, 1842. 3 items. Location: Misc. Charles Alfred Holt of Summit, Miss., received his M.D. degree from Jefferson College in Philadelphia, Pa., in 1842. This collection pertains to Charles Alfred Holt's application for a position as naval surgeon in February-April 1842. It includes a letter of recommendation from Dr. Charles D. Meigs; a certificate of health addressed to the Naval Medical Board of Examination; and a note from his father, John L. Holt, attesting to Charles Holt's age and date of birth. Mss. 3719.
  • Home Farm for Freedmen Account, 1864 Nov. 18. 1 item. Location: Misc.: H. The Home Farm for Freedmen was established at the Ralston Plantation near Jonesville, La., for the care of freed African American slaves. J. C. Hall & Co. was the lessor of the property. An invoice submitted by J. C. Hall & Co. to the Home Farm for Freedmen lists expenses for thirty-two African American men and women, the hire of a mule, and for the loss of an army wagon that had been captured by the Confederate Army.
