Memoirs and diary related to the Civil War activities of Ezekiel John Ellis include a political speech and incomplete work of fiction and are accompanied by a transcript, research manuscript and photograph. Diary recounts his participation in fighting up to his capture at Missionary Ridge and his subsequent imprisonment at Johnson's Island. Album consists of images made by various photographers during the Civil War. They depict buildings, structures and scenes in several Louisiana locations, including New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Port Hudson, and Donaldsonville, and Point Mobile, Ala.
