Provosty Arthur Davis served as Superintendent of Police for the New Orleans Police Department from 1954-1960. These papers consist of correspondence, legal documents, statement transcriptions, internal memoranda, published materials, newspapers and clippings created and accumulated by Provosty Arthur Dayries primarily during his leadership role between 1954 and 1961. They concern New Orleans Police Department personnel changes, internal investigations and trials. Foster Joseph Tate was a field artillery officer who commanded a division in Italy during World War II and was awarded the Legion of Merit for his service. Diaries document expenses, condolence visits, and piano lessons. Beginning in May 1861, they deal with the Civil War, including events in occupied New Orleans.
