Samuel Kennedy Talmage was the second president of Oglethorpe University in Midway, Ga., between 1841 and 1865. Samuel K. Talmage in New Orleans, La., writes his nephew, Rev. John F.N. Talmage in New York, N.Y., describing his work for the Presbyterian Church and Oglethorpe University, the various people of New Orleans, and his nephew's aspiration to be a missionary to Borneo. Martin, in Bladensburg, Md., discussing family illnesses and worry over epidemic diseases in the North. He describes events at a Methodist Episcopal Church, South convention he is attending, mentioning the election of several bishops, including Dr. William May Wightman of South Carolina. Mss. 4077.

Dow, Lorenzo, 1777-1834. Letter, 1802 Aug. 16. 1 letter. Location: Misc. Lorenzo Dow (October 16, 1777-February 2, 1834) was a popular, eccentric American itinerant preacher and an important figure in the Second Great Awakening. Lorenzo Dow in New York writes his parents, Humphrey Dean and Tabitha (Parker) Dow, in Coventry, Conn., describing his itinerant preaching in Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey. Mss. 4105.

Hope regarding the failure of a Dr. McDowell to pay the subscription fees for several missionaries in northern Mississippi and Alabama to receive The Biblical Repertory and Princeton Review. Green, Emile. Papers, 1909-1930. 3 items. Location: Misc. Emile Green of Opelousas, La., was an African-American local preacher in the Methodist Episcopal Church. These papers consist of a certificate renewing Green's local preacher's license (1909), Green's report to a Lake Charles District conference enumerating sermons preached and visits made (1918), and a letter from a relative in Angola, La. Ella Grunewald writes about her family, friends, and neighbors; social life and culture in New Orleans; Mardi Gras; she describes in detail her school lessons in Classical mythology and chemistry experiments; Catholic religious observances; plays, concerts, and other entertainment; and lectures given by Dr. Stanford E. Chaillé. She also describes her visits to the two World\'s Fairs held in New Orleans: the World\'s Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exposition (Dec. 1884-June 1885) and the North, Central and South American Exposition (Nov. 1885-March 1886).
