Letter by Adams to members of the Kentucky Annual Conference discusses indebtedness incurred by the Conference as publisher of the 'Gospel herald.' On the circular is a note from Adams to Mann Satterwhite of Laurel Hill, West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana. Served as head principal of the Silliman Female Collegiate Institute at Clinton, Louisiana, in the early 1850s. The collection consists of papers and personal diaries. Among the papers is a prospectus and lithograph of the Sparta, Georgia, Female Model School (1833); and a prospectus of the Taylor Montgomery Cottage College and Academy, Mississippi. Diaries relate to personal matters, weather conditions, school affairs, religious matters during the period from 1849 until 1863. Volume 12 contains comments on wounded Confederate soldiers in hospitals. Also included are the personal diaries of Henry Kirby (1854) and Mary Emerson Taylor (1859-1860, 1869). Crump, Anna. Record book, 1931-1955. 1 volume. Location: H:25. Resident of Haynesville, Louisiana. Record book contains monthly expenses including phone, light, and water bills; payments for groceries and chicken feed; tax payments on her properties; and regular purchases of the Haynesville News. Crump logged her income each month consisting of lease and royalty checks from the United Gas Co., Pure Oil Co., Ashland Oil Co., Sohio Oil Co., and Sun Oil Co.; sales of butter, eggs, berries, and figs; government subsidy checks for cotton production; rent from boarders and tenant farmers for her "home place" and the "McLeod place"; and timber and cotton sales. In journal entries, she also wrote notes on the oil exploration on her properties, trips to Shreveport for personal medical examinations, and her gifts and tithes to the Presbyterian Church. Crump noted the birthdays and ages of Clinton and Dorris Crump, without explicitly mentioning whether these were her children. Mss. 4970.

Barstow, Henry. War record and letter, 1862-1880 (bulk 1862-1863). 2 items. Location: Misc:B. Henry Barstow served in I Company of the Massachusetts 4th Infantry during the Civil War. In 1863, he was a prisoner of war in Brashear City, La. He discusses his company's maneuvers from Lakeville, Mass. to Brashear City, La. and describes his experience in the prison camp and subsequent release. Topics include poor health and malnourishment among the soldiers; traveling on the Mississippi River; and general conditions in the camp.
