These were the slaves of the following slaveholders: John James Dillard of Tuscumbia, Alabama; Isaac Turner Tinsley of Pikesville, Alabama; James Routh of Concordia Parish, Louisiana; Patrick Herndon of New Orleans; Gowan Harris of Iberville Parish, Louisiana; Edwin Waller of Palmyra, Missouri; and Samspon Blossman of New Orleans. Indentures give the name, age, and family relationships of the slaves. Mss. 4762.

  • Liddell family. Papers, 1850-1869. 23 items. Location: C:61. Moses Liddell was a planter Woodville, Miss. and Catahoula Parish, La. He served as a brigadier general in the Confederate Army. Letters from members of the Liddell family pertain to the California gold rush, the migration of Southern planters to South America after the Civil War, and financial aid offered by Southern colleges to prospective students during Reconstruction. Consists of a bound volume with photocopies of several of noted LSU English faculty member and Southern literature scholar Lewis P. Simpson's published essays and articles. Also contains published writings about Simpson, a speech given on his behalf at the 1991 Modern Languages Association Convention, and several pieces of correspondence between Simpson and anthology compiler Anthony G.
