Available on microfilm 5735: University Publications of America Confederate Military Manuscripts Series B, Reels 13-14. Physician of New Orleans who served as a Confederate surgeon and hospital inspector in the Civil War. After the war, McKelvey returned to his medical practice in New Orleans. Papers include a record book (1864-1865) containing official correspondence and inspection reports for hospitals in the Department of Alabama, Mississippi, and East Louisiana; a request to practice medicine in New Orleans; and records of that practice. Early correspondence discusses health during the 1850s; Civil War correspondence discusses camp life, soldiers' health, and battles; later correspondence covers Reconstruction, education, and Baptists. McKittrick was also involved in the farming business partnership of McKittrick & Keller. Papers pertaining largely to McKittrick's dental practice include patient records. Other materials include a pocket diary with memoranda and account information, and a ledger containing the 1871-1872 accounts of the Baton Rouge Broom Factory.   • McKowen, John. Papers, 1836-1898 (bulk 1836-1869). 32 items. Location: E:54. Irish American general merchant of Jackson, East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana. His son, John Clay MacKowen, was a physician. Correspondence consists of letters from friends and business associates, many of Irish descent, living in Louisiana, New York, and Ireland. Letters discuss personal, social, economic, and political matters. Included is a newspaper article by Dr. John MacKowen refuting the claim by Colonel Allen D. Papers include Lilley-Stirling legal documents and financial papers; McKowen family correspondence; and legal papers, and medical correspondence of John C. MacKowen, a Louisiana physician.   • McMullan, T. N. Photograph collection, 1945, undated. 230 photographic prints, 22 items. Location: W:37. Intelligence officer during World War II and was dean of the LSU Libraries between 1961 and 1973. The 230 photographs, taken by McMullan when stationed in the Philippine Islands, record the surrender of Japanese forces, war damage, and scenes in Manila and elsewhere in the islands. A small number of photomechanical prints, slides, clippings, leaflets, and picture postcards are also included. Mss. 2750.

This typescript copy of the journal of Alice "Alie" Austen McMurran recounts her marriage in Maryland and subsequent life in antebellum Natchez, Miss.; her life in Natchez and Maryland during the Civil War; political and social events at the close of the war; and family affairs in Mississippi and Maryland during the three years after the war and sporadically recorded through 1878. Letters mention judgeships in Mississippi, the funeral of Henry Clay, the sale of the plantation of a mulatto politician, the effects of Reconstruction, and problems of plantation management during Reconstruction.
