  • Moyer, H. P. Letter, 1874 Jan. 4. 1 item. Location: Misc.:M. Resident of Lebanon, Louisiana. Letter from H.P. Moyer, Lebanon, Pa., to W.C. Cole, New Orleans, La., concerning the poor health of his brother, John Moyer, in New Orleans. H.P. Moyer regrets that he cannot send for his brother because of his fragile health or come to see him in New Orleans. He adds that he is too poor to bring his brother's corpse home and asks Cole to bury him in the event of his death. For further information, see online catalog. Mss. 222.

Members of the Moyse, Gottlieb, and Sommer families were predominantly merchants, businessmen, and bankers in Louisiana, primarily Baton Rouge. Correspondence, financial documents, photographs, printed items, scrapbooks, and writings reflect the personal and professional lives of a Jewish family from the 1880s to the 1980s. Central topics include Hermann Moyse Sr.'s involvement in the First World War and his employment at City National Bank, the educational activities of Ray and Lydie Sommer, and the family's association with Temple B'nai Israel.   • Muggah-Glover-Guyther. Family Papers, 1844-1896, 1906 (bulk 1844-1852). 14 items. Location: UU:168. The Muggah, Glover, and Guyther families lived in Natchez, Mississippi and Pattersonville, Louisiana. Papers nclude correspondence, photocopies of newspaper clippings, and photographs. Correspondence consists mostly of letters between women discussing marriage, family life, domestic obligations, religion, social events, and customs. Mss. 4790.
  • Mugnier, George Francois, 1857-1938. Photographs and exhibit catalog, 1880-1961 (bulk 1880- 1910). 39 items, 1 volume. Location: U:104. Swiss-born photographer who moved to New Orleans in the 1860s. He worked as a watchmaker, engraver, commercial artist, and photographer. In the 1880s, he owned a photographic studio which produced stereographic cards and views of local subjects. Photographs in the collection primarily depict New Orleans buildings and monuments.   • Mugnier, George Francois. Stereographs, 1880-1910. 36 items. Location: U:105. Swiss-born photographer who moved to New Orleans in the 1860s. He worked as a watchmaker, engraver, commercial artist, and photographer. In the 1880s, he owned a photographic studio which produced stereographic cards and views of local subjects. Stereographs and photographic prints depict New Orleans monuments, buildings, hotels, the French Quarter, Lake Pontchartrain, steamers on the Mississippi River, Louisiana swamps, St. Louis Cemetery, and street scenes.   • Mullen, Robert A. Correspondence, 1863-1865. Location: Misc.:M. A New Orleans native and Confederate naval officer; prisoner of war at Fort Warren, Boston, Massachusetts. Letters to Eliza Brenan of New Orleans, Louisiana, describe his emotional state and his experiences in the navy before his capture.   • Muller, Frederick. Papers, 1898 Jun. 30. 2 items. OS:M. Frederick H. Muller was captain of Troop E of the 1st United States Volunteer Cavalry (the "Rough Riders") during the Spanish-American War. Abstract of expenditures for the quarter ending June 30, 1898 shows the amount of ammunition used on May 28 and June 24 of that year. Quarterly return of ordnance and ordnance stores shows supplies received and used for the same dates. Both are signed by Captain Frederick Muller on June 30, 1898 at a military station in El Pozo, Cuba. Mss. 5248.
  • Mullet, Thomas. Letter, 1862 July 16. 1 item. Location: Misc:M. Confederate soldier in the Louisiana Artillery, 8th Battalion Heavy, during the Civil War. Letter written to General Daniel Ruggles reports military action at Red River Landing and Bayou Sarah, Louisiana.   • Murdoch, James Edward, 1811-1893. Papers, 1837-1903. 35 items. Location: A:2. American actor and father of Fannie Murdoch. They were associated with John Pierpont, a Unitarian clergyman, author, and abolitionist. Collection consists of letters written to Murdoch, his daughter, John Pierpont, W. F. John Murdock, master of Cane Mount Plantation near Lorman, Miss., describes his travel by ship from Louisville, Ky., to Rodney, Miss.; poor conditions and crop yields at the plantation; attitudes of the slaves; relations with neighbors; his oppressive debts; and their children. The papers consist of correspondence, administrative files, research files, printed items, clippings, and notes of Hyde H. Murray, vice-chairman of the Civil War Sites Advisory Commission, a body created by Congress to identify important Civil War sites, determine their significance and current condition, evaluate any threats to their integrity, develop alternatives for preservation and interpretation, and report these findings to Congress.   • Murray, J. Ogden, 1840-1921. Letter and Booklet, 1911. 2 Items. Location: MISC:M. Major in the Confederate Army. He was in the 7th Virginia Cavalry and was captured at Gettysburg. He was a war prisoner and detained by the Union Army on Morris Island in South Carolina. The letter and booklet include one letter to General John E. Roller from J. Ogden Murray referencing Murray's booklet, Jefferson Davis: A Short Story of the Confederate Soldier, the Ideal Soldier of the World (1911), which is also included. Mss. 5135.

A scrapbook and photograph album belonging to William Murray of Edinburgh, Scotland containing postcards, stamps, stickers, and signatures, as well as a folder of loose photographs of individuals, landscapes, and buildings as well as the negatives, postcards of plants, and a watercolor picture of a landscape.
