  • Hardin, (J. Fair). Papers, 1932. 1 flyleaf. Location: Misc. Flyleaf from a book given to the Louisiana State University library in memory of J. Fair Hardin, inscribed by Cammie G. Henry of Melrose Plantation, Natchitoches Parish, La. The book was probably by Mary Barrow Linfield, who also wrote under the pen name Lawrence Highland, of St. Francisville, La., as the inscription furnishes biographical information on Linfield. Mss. 2264.
  • Hardin, (J. Fair) Collection, 1718-1939. 7 linear ft., 5 vols. Location: S-29-36, 78:66-67, P:2, OS:H, Map Cage, 98:H, Vault:3, Mss. MF:H. Shreveport, Louisiana, attorney, historian, and author. The J. Fair Hardin Collection includes correspondence, proofs, drafts, reports, maps, articles, and speeches, as well as research materials created or collected by Hardin. The papers pertain to his efforts to mark historical sites in Louisiana (especially the Presidio de Nuestra Seänora del Pilar de Los Adaes site in Natchitoches Parish, La.). Also included are the papers concerning the research, writing, and publishing of his book, Northwestern Louisiana (1939). Mss. 1014.

  • Harding Field Heroes File, 1941-1946 (bulk 1944-1945). 2.5 linear feet. Location: 78:48-50, OS:H, Room 304. Harding Field was a United States Army Air Corps base located nine miles north of Baton Rouge, La., that operated between 1941 and 1945. From February 1944 to March 1945, Colonel W.G. Schauffler Jr. (1891-1951) was the commanding officer at Harding Field. In June 1944, Col. Schauffler was informed that his only son had been killed in action over the Pacific theater which led directly to the development of the Harding Field Heroes File. The collection includes letters, photographs, and newspaper clippings solicited by Col. Schauffler and sent by next of kin of pilots who graduated from Harding Field. The collection also contains newspaper clippings about the airbase which range from the establishment of the base in 1941 to its decommissioning in 1945. It contains 51 photographs of groups of pilots, individual portraits, and pinning ceremonies. It also contains a casualty list and a painting with the "72 Fighter Wing" emblem. Mss. 0893.
  • Harding, Sidney, b. 1841. Diaries, 1863-1865. 2 vols. Location: U:230. Daughter of W. S. and Elizabeth Harding, Old Brier Plantation, St. Mary Parish, Louisiana. During the Civil War, her family fled three times from home, the final time to DeSoto Parish. Three diaries chronicle the family's flight to North Louisiana during the Civil War and the hardships her family dealt with during their exile.   • Harper, Aaron Charter. Account, 1863. 1 vol. Location: Misc:H. Confederate sergeant in the 12th Louisiana Infantry Regiment. Account of Harper's military service, with descriptions of battles, the destruction of Union military supplies and the capture of Union soldiers, and the destruction of railroads by both Union and Confederate troops. Harper makes references to military encounters with General Grant and desertion in the Confederate army. He also comments of living conditions and disease among soldiers. Papers include certificates of membership in the United Confederate Veterans and the American Flag House and Betsy Ross Memorial Association; and a photograph of General Thomas N. Leaflet of 'The One-Armed Soldier,' a poem written by William Harrington, a Union soldier in the 40th Indiana Infantry wounded at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, Ga.   • Harris & Ewing. Photographs of Asa Leonard Allen, approximately 1930-1940. 5 photographs. Location: MISC:A, OS:A. Asa Leonard Allen was a member of the House of Representatives from the State of Louisiana. He represented the Eighth Congressional District as a Democrat. He served eight terms, but did not run for a ninth term because George Shannon "Doc" Long wanted the position and Allen was loyal to the Long family.The Photographs of Asa Leonard Allen include five photographs from the 1930s and 1940s. A 1944 photograph includes Allen with a group witnessing President Franklin Roosevelt signing the GI Bill of Rights in the Oval Office. Another photograph depicts Allen with a woman who presumably is his wife and another depicts Allen working at his law office in 1930. Two photographs are undated portraits taken by photographers Harris & Ewing. Mss. 5130.

  • Harris, John A. (John Achilles), d. 1864. Letters, 1854-1864. 65 items. Location:U:108. Private in the 19th Louisiana Infantry from Claiborne Parish, killed at the Battle of Ezra Church. Harris served as a member of the state senate (1868) and was elected as a Republican to the U.S. Senate (1868-1871). Harris in Helena, Mont., quotes Caecilius: "If each to each be all he can, A very God is man to man." Mss. 4130.

  • Harris, Nathaniel and James W. M. Papers, 1865-1920. 1 microfilm reel. Location: Mss.MF:H. Business papers of the law firm of Harris and Harris, a partnership of Confederate General Nathaniel Harrison Harris and his brother Captain James W. M. Harris. The firm operated from Vicksburg, Mississippi. Correspondence from the collection concerns railroad bonds, contracts and construction; land deeds and sales; taxes; insurance policies; ledgers; receipts; bills; cancelled checks; and bank settlements.
