A partially filled military diary from an unknown author that recounts the daily activities undertaken from September 1, 1796 through September 14, 1796.  The author is presumably of advanced rank or importance based on their recounting of interactions with various Lords, Ladies, and Generals, and a daily naming of different locations for dining and housing.  Several pages at the end of the notebook contain notes on the commanders from Kent and Sussex, the range of various muskets and artillery, and the location of various groups from Norfolk, Suffolk, and Essex. The author wrote about a variety of topics pertaining to daily life including the weather, visitors, purchases, tasks, errands, elections, deaths, and burials. The author also discusses financial issues such as investment dividends, accounts with the Bank of Scotland, listing of shares of stock held by individuals, and prices of goods. Description
Anonymous travel diary, 1845-1847. 1 diary. Location: 31:. A travel diary written by an anonymous author discussing their trip to London to visit their son Robert. The author makes two trips, one from August 11, 1845 to September 3, 1845 and the second from October 5, 1847 to October 15, 1847. Both trips begin with a train ride from Richmond to London on the Great North of England Railway. Visits to sites such as Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, and the Royal Polytechnic Institution are described, as are meals and visitations with friends. Description
Anonymous log, 1848-1864. 1 log. Location: 31:. A logbook written by an anonymous author concerning multiple ships in the British Royal Navy. Entries from January 5, 1849 to June 9, 1850 detail the date, time, and location of arrivals and departures and entries from May 28 1848 to July 09 1850 provide greater details about for HMS Amphitrite, a frigate.  The logbook then changes to discussing the outfitting of HMS Rodney, a ship of the line, from August 18, 1851 to November 15, 1851, followed by 56 pages of instructions on rigging, beams, dimensions, anchors, cables, chains and other detailed configurations and mechanical maneuvers, and concluding with a list of arrivals and departures from March 27, 1852 to June 17, 1864. Anonymous stock notebook, 1871. 1 notebook. Location: 31:. A notebook with the words "stock taking, August 27th, 1871" on the inside cover, written by an anonymous author. The notebook contains information on the stock of clothing available to the author separated by types and colors. The book tracks the number, size and price of items, and is thus probably a stock book for a clothing store. Prices are summed in three columns at the bottom of pages, possibly indicating a pound/shilling/pence monetary system. Types of clothing listed in the notebook include flannels, linens, black silks, white cotton, hosiery, gloves, ribbons, jackets, furs, umbrellas, and other items. A diary written by an anonymous author in Bauchurch, England.  The author's family travels to Madeira, Portugal in October 1852, and the author expresses concern that their family will remain in Madeira and not return to Bauchurch the following summer.  The young author experiences mood swings and makes repeated entreaties to God for health, long life, and other boons for various people and laments their own misery.
