Stocking of Chatham, Connecticut, describing his accounting work, his relationship with his superiors, the gift of an instrument shaped like a guitar with a bellows for the left hand and keys for the right, foreign members of the city's orchestra who board at the same hotel as he, his efforts to learn the trumpet, and his friendship with Louis Parocheau.
