What print books are available on ______ topic? Where do I find them?
There are two ways to locate print books in the library's collection:
- Print books are searchable in the LSU Libraries catalog (https://lsu.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/lsu/?rm=MORE+SEARCH+OP0%7C%7C%7C…) . To find books on a certain topic, you can either search for the topic as a keyword, or use the advanced search to look for subject tags.
- Print books can also be found searching the library's Discovery (https://www.lib.lsu.edu/) search tool, the default search box on the library's homepage. It searches across many of the library's databases and the catalog. Answered by: Electronic Resources
How can I see or pay library fines?
Recent fines accrued by LSU Library patrons will appear on their library account. You can see any current fines by logging into your library catalog account using the link below. We accept cash, check, and TigerCash payments at the checkout desk in room 241 LSU Library. Please use your library catalog account to pay using a bank or credit card. Fines applied to student accounts will roll from the library to the bursar at the end of the month, at which point they will be applied to the student's fee bill. What sort of study spaces are available in the library?
The majority of the tables and desks throughout LSU Library are treated as open seating for anyone to use. These spaces are available on all floors of the library. Certain areas are designated for quiet study; these include sections of the second and third floors and the entirety of the fourth. Regardless of where you are, please be respectful of other patrons studying nearby. There are several bookable group study rooms and individual study booths located on the third and fourth floors. Walk-up use of these spaces is encouraged, but reservations always take priority. Faculty and graduate students may also request a key for their own private study carrel at the checkout desk in room 241. Physiological response of milkfish (Chanos chanos) to capture in a fly fishing catch‐and‐release recreational fishery.
Recreational angling for novel marine species and related tourism development can be important in a Blue Economy. The milkfish (Chanos chanos) is growing in popularity as a target of fly fishing‐based catch‐and‐release (C&R) recreational fisheries, largely because of their challenge to catch and powerful swimming abilities, resulting in fight times that can exceed 1 h. Anecdotal sentiments by anglers claim that milkfish can fight for long periods of time because they do not accumulate blood lactate. To test this hypothesis, we measured blood lactate and blood glucose for 21 milkfish caught by fly fishing in the remote Alphonse Group of islands, Republic of Seychelles. Fight times ranged 5–78.3 min. Blood lactate and blood glucose concentrations increased with fight times that did not exceed 60 min. Total length of milkfish was not correlated to blood lactate or blood glucose concentrations. Ours is the first study on C&R of milkfish that debunks the anecdote that milkfish can fight for long periods of time because they do not accumulate blood lactate. Our study also revealed that milkfish may begin to physiologically recover after fight times longer than 60 min. In the context of C&R, our study indicates that anglers should limit fight times to 20–30 min when possible to reduce angling‐induced physiological stress and other potential impacts (e.g., depredation) on milkfish in recreational fisheries. Effects of Gillnet Mesh Size on the Size Selectivity and Catch Efficiency for Two Rockfish in the Artificial Reef Area of Shandong Province, China.
Gillnets are the most commonly used fishing gear targeting black rockfish (Sebastes schlegeli) and fat greenling (Hexagrammos otakii) in the artificial reef area in coastal China. However, a minimum mesh size (MMS) has not yet been established for this fishery, which is unfavorable for sustainable development and effective management of fishery resources. We compared size selectivity and catch efficiency of gillnets of four commonly used mesh size (stretched mesh size; 40, 50, 60, and 70‐mm) in a typical artificial reef area in the Yellow Sea, China. Increasing the mesh size improved size selectivity of gillnets for black rockfish and fat greenling by reducing the proportion of undersized individuals. Further, changes in mesh size affected catch efficiency of target‐sized individuals. To protect juveniles, while maintaining catch efficiency for target‐sized fish, we recommend 60‐mm as the MMS for this fishery. Multi-state catch bond formed in the Izumo1:Juno complex that initiates human fertilization
Izumo1:Juno-mediated adhesion between sperm and egg cells is essential for mammalian sexual reproduction. However, conventional biophysical and structural approaches have provided only limited functional insights. Using atomic force microscopy-based single-molecule force spectroscopy and all-atom steered molecular dynamic simulations, we explore the role of mechanical forces in regulating the human Izumo1:Juno complex. Our findings reveal a multi-state catch bond capable of withstanding forces up to 600 pN– mechanostability rarely observed among eukaryotic protein complexes. We find that this enhanced mechanostability is impaired in the infertility-associated mutant, JunoH177Q. Detailed steered molecular dynamics simulations show how force-dependent structural reorganization of the Izumo1:Juno complex engages previously undiscovered binding conformations to achieve this state of high mechanostability. Overall, this study significantly enhances our understanding of the mechanical underpinnings that regulate human fertilization.Sperm–egg adhesion is crucial for mammalian reproduction. Here, authors report the human Izumo1:Juno complex, a key regulator of sperm-egg adhesion, forms an unusually strong bond through a secondary binding site, which is impaired in an infertility-associated Juno mutant.
