I'm an instructor who has an evaluation copy. Can I put it on reserve for my class?
We are not able to put any instructor evaluation copies on reserves. The evaluation copies for instructors typically come with warnings on them and are intended solely for professors to review for possible implementation in courses. U.S. copyright law states that since no one has purchased this book it would not be protected by the First Use Doctrine (17 U.S.C. 109) or any of the typical copyright laws we rely on to protect us from copyright infringement. We could purchase a copy for you to put on reserve for your class if you wish to use it. Answered by: Access Services Staff
How do I place a hold on a book?
Look up the title of the book in the library catalog. When you find the correct record, look for the "Place Hold" link under "Request item" (see attached image 1 below). Click "Place Hold" once more in the pop-up box (see attached image 2). Note: If you are not logged into your library account, you will be prompted to enter your myLSU ID and password. I would like to deposit my manuscript into the institutional repository. How do I do that?
Faculty can submit their manuscripts for their respective departments by visiting this link (https://digitalcommons.lsu.edu/submit_research.html) . Where should I return library checkouts?
Standard book returns (including ILL books) can be placed in one of the book drops on the first floor (across from the main stairwell and behind the front desk) or brought to the checkout desk in room 241. When the library is closed, patrons can use the overnight book drop to the right of the quad-side entrance. NOTE: Reserve and Gear2Geaux items (laptops, chargers, etc.) often have time-specific due dates! How do I find scholarly resources?
Generally, we recommend doing a search on the library's homepage using the Discovery search box when just starting out with your research or class assignment. Finally, if you prefer to meet with a research librarian who can give you a much deeper dive into searching and using our resources, you can set up an appointment with one. Can I recall a book that is checked out to someone else?
LSU Library used to offer a service that allowed library to patrons to recall items checked out to other patrons. Access Services no longer offers this option. Instead, if LSU Librarys copy of an item is checked out, patrons can obtain a different copy of the item through Interlibrary Loan. Catalog records for items that are checked out contain links for Interlibrary Loan that import the items citation information directly into a request form. Psychological Warfare and Propaganda in World War II: Air Dropped and Shelled Leaflets and Periodicals
This publication collection consists of over 1,000 air dropped and shelled leaflets and periodicals created and disseminated during the Second World War. The majority of items in this collection were printed by the Allies then air or container dropped, or fired by artillery shell over German occupied territory. Many leaflets and periodicals have original publication codes and were printed in over 10 languages. Only shelled leaflets, Germans to Allies (115 items), are in English.
Correspondence from German Concentration Camps and Prisons
This collection consists of items originating from prisoners held in German concentration camps, internment and transit camps, Gestapo prisons, and POW camps, during and just prior to World War II. Most of the collection consists of letters written or received by prisoners, but also includes receipts for parcels, money orders and personal effects; paper currency; and realia, including Star of David badges that Jews were forced to wear.’’
