My interlibrary loan is due but I still need it. Can I keep it longer?
One renewal (loan extension) is allowed per request, unless "NO RENEWALS ALLOWED" is printed on the book band. Approval and length of the extension is up to the lending library. Renewals are usually granted for 2-4 weeks. Renewal requests can be made starting 10 days before due date and cannot be requested after the due date has passed. If the due date has passed and you still need the item, place a new request and we will get the item from another library. Return the overdue item ASAP. To request a renewal:
- Logon to your ILL (https://www.lib.lsu.edu/services/ill) account.
- Under "View Your Requests" click Checked Out /Renew.
- Click on the transaction number (TN) of the item you want to renew.
- If the item is eligible for renewal (within 10 days of the due date) click the Renew Request link in red, your new due date is a 3-day extension of the original due date. If the lender grants a full extension (usually 2-4 weeks), you will receive a notification with a new due date. Answered by: Jacob Fontenot
What print books are available on ______ topic? Where do I find them?
There are two ways to locate print books in the library's collection:
- Print books are searchable in the LSU Libraries catalog (https://lsu.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/lsu/?rm=MORE+SEARCH+OP0%7C%7C%7C…) . To find books on a certain topic, you can either search for the topic as a keyword, or use the advanced search to look for subject tags.
- Print books can also be found searching the library's Discovery (https://www.lib.lsu.edu/) search tool, the default search box on the library's homepage. It searches across many of the library's databases and the catalog. Answered by: Electronic Resources
How can I see or pay library fines?
Recent fines accrued by LSU Library patrons will appear on their library account. You can see any current fines by logging into your library catalog account using the link below. We accept cash, check, and TigerCash payments at the checkout desk in room 241 LSU Library. Please use your library catalog account to pay using a bank or credit card. Fines applied to student accounts will roll from the library to the bursar at the end of the month, at which point they will be applied to the student's fee bill. CATCH: A Tool to Automatic Deploy Decoys and Breadcrumbs Based on Network Analysis
This paper presents a novel approach to deception technology through CATCH. CATCH is a tool to automate the deployment of decoys and breadcrumbs triggered by network traffic analysis. Unlike current static deception offerings, this system dynamically deploys decoys and breadcrumbs within the organization’s network based on real-time traffic patterns. This dynamic approach offers significant advantages. Firstly, it improves efficiency by focusing decoys on areas experiencing potential threats, reducing wasted resources on unused decoys. Secondly, it provides economic gains compared to static deception solutions. By eliminating the need for preconfigured and potentially underutilized decoys, organizations can optimize their security budget. The paper details the design and implementation of this system and showcasing its ability to strategically deploy ephemeral deception artefacts, including decoys and breadcrumbs, to proactively mislead attackers. CATCH offers a significant advancement in deception technology, by providing centralized automatic deployment and management of decoys and breadcrumbs that improved security posture and cost-effectiveness for organizations.
Learning Dexterous Bimanual Catch Skills Through Adversarial-Cooperative Heterogeneous-Agent Reinforcement Learning
Robotic catching has traditionally focused on single-handed systems, which are limited in their ability to handle larger or more complex objects. In contrast, bimanual catching offers significant potential for improved dexterity and object handling but introduces new challenges in coordination and control. In this paper, we propose a novel framework for learning dexterous bimanual catching skills using Heterogeneous-Agent Reinforcement Learning (HARL). Our approach introduces an adversarial reward scheme, where a throw agent increases the difficulty of throws-adjusting speed-while a catch agent learns to coordinate both hands to catch objects under these evolving conditions. We evaluate the framework in simulated environments using 15 different objects, demonstrating robustness and versatility in handling diverse objects. Our method achieved approximately a $2 x$ increase in catching reward compared to single-agent baselines across $\mathbf{1 5}$ diverse objects.
Domestication as the driver of lower chronic stress levels in fish in catch-and-release recreational fisheries and aquaculture versus wild conspecifics.
The manipulation of species' attributes through selective breeding can produce domesticated traits including decreased stress responses (i.e., selecting for high stress resilience). Common carp Cyprinus carpio ("carp") have been domesticated for centuries, with domesticated forms frequently used to enhance recreational catch-and-release fisheries around the world. In Atlantic salmon Salmo salar ("salmon"), two primary strains are evident, a wild strain and domesticated aquaculture strain. Here, we compared scale cortisol concentrations (a biomarker of fish chronic stress levels) between domesticated carp in catch-and-release pond fisheries and wild carp in waters with no angling. Carp of low scale cortisol concentration were apparent in all sampled populations, suggesting individuals of low stress sensitivity are encountered in both wild and domesticated strains, and in natural and captive environments. Carp with relatively high levels of scale cortisol were, however, only present in wild carp, suggesting high phenotypic variability in their chronic stress responses, with some individuals being highly sensitive to stress. In some wild carp, elevated scale cortisol concentrations could also have been indicative of adaptive responses to their heterogenous environments. We then compared wild versus farmed salmon scale cortisol levels, and found a similar pattern, with relatively high scale cortisol levels only detected in wild fish. These results indicate that while domesticated carp and salmon are exposed to potentially stressful environments, they appear to have some resilience against the adverse effects of chronic stress. Catch-And-Release Fishing: A Case Study in Poland.
The purpose of this study is to determine the current state of angler knowledge, opinions, awareness, and use of catch-and-release (C&R) best practices and to identify the main socio-economic factors that determine attitudes and willingness to use C&R among Polish anglers. Knowledge of this issue contributes to more effective management of fisheries and fish stocks. The research was conducted through an online survey form using a technique called CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interview). The questionnaire used consisted of 25 questions, including basic socio-economic questions, questions about seniority, frequency, location and method of fishing, and specific factual questions related to knowledge and practices regarding C&R. A total of 1574 respondents participated in the survey. The majority of respondents were male (97.5%). The survey showed that Polish anglers are overwhelmingly willing to practice C&R: 48.8% of respondents always and 44.0% often voluntarily release the fish they catch. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between the use of this practice and the age of the angler (r = 0.46; p = 0.0001). Anglers under the age of 55 were the most likely to use C&R (p = 0.0097). The majority of respondents believe that C&R is important for improving fish stocks, but their knowledge and practices in this area have serious shortcomings. Inadequate knowledge of issues such as barotrauma or safe hook types, as well as inappropriate practices such as photographing and unhooking fish, can negatively affect their survival and ultimately the status of living water resources and ecosystem quality. Can't Catch a Break : Gender, Jail, Drugs, and the Limits of Personal Responsibility
Based on five years of fieldwork in Boston, Can't Catch a Break documents the day-to-day lives of forty women as they struggle to survive sexual abuse, violent communities, ineffective social and therapeutic programs, discriminatory local and federal policies, criminalization, incarceration, and a broad cultural consensus that views suffering as a consequence of personal flaws and bad choices.
