  • Saucier, Gertrude B. (Gertrude Bott), 1881-1978. Family Papers, 1821-1960. 351 items, 1 ms. Vol., 2 printed vols. Location: UU:82; OS:S. Available (with some omissions) on microfilm 5735: University Publications of America Confederate Military Manuscripts Series B, Reel 17. Resident of Baton Rouge, the daughter of John Phillip and Mary Buchel Bott. Both sets of Saucier's grandparents were of German origin. She was an honorary president of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Papers consist primarily of business, personal, and legal papers of the Buchel and Bott families, with a few items from the Saucier family. Collection includes thirty-one muster rolls of Louisiana Confederate regiments. Photographs in the collection include studio portraits, views of Baton Rouge houses, and a banquet of the United Daughters of the Confederacy meeting in 1947. Some items in German, French, and Latin. Papers include family correspondence, with two letters of Corrine Savoy discussing the election of 1900; business papers dealing with the sale of sugar and molasses in New Orleans; and insurance policies for Joseph Savoy's plantation and sugar house. One letter and one receipt in French.   • Savoy, Joseph and Paul. Papers, 1859-1885. 28 items. Location: A:10. Joseph Savoy was a sugar planter of Bayou Lafourche, Assumption Parish, Louisiana. His brother was Paul Savoy. Papers include bills of sale, account statements, correspondence, notes, and printed items related to Joseph and Paul Savoy's sugar operations and other business endeavors. Some items are in French, and some items bear the name of Mrs. Paul Savoy.  Mss. 5360.
  • Saxon, Lyle, 1891-1946. Letters, 1919-1928. 2 letters. Location: MISC:S. Lyle Saxon was a feature writer for the New Orleans Times-Picayune (1918-1926), state director of the Louisiana Writers' Project (1935-1942), and author of several books on the history and culture of Louisiana and New Orleans. He also befriended many of the day's writers, including Sherwood Anderson, John Dos Passos, Thomas Wolfe, and William Faulkner. Two letters written to Leslie Leigh Ducros Seltzer. One letter dated August 30, 1919 discusses a marriage certificate. The second letter dated August 22, 1928 discusses getting together and the completion of Saxon's book, "Fabulous New Orleans." The Lyle Saxon Miscellany consists of four personal letters from Saxon to a friend, Mrs. Grace Arny of New Orleans (1933-1934) and a sketch by E.H. Original manuscript of Lafitte the Pirate by Lyle Saxon. The bound volume also contains a presentation letter, 1932, to Mrs. Franz Blom (later Mrs. Peter G. Denker) and a photograph of Saxon.   • Saxon, Lyle, 1891-1946. Children of Strangers, 1930-1937. 1 vol. (on microfilm). Location: Mss. Mf.:S, vault:22. Saxon, an LSU alumnus, was a resident of Baton Rouge, La. He was a historian as well as a writer of fiction. Original manuscript of Saxon's only novel, Children of Strangers, published in 1937. The bound volume also contains a letter of presentation to Franz Blom (later Mrs. Peter G. Denker), photographs of two of the characters in Children of Strangers, and reviews from The Saturday Review, The Times-Picayune, New Orleans States, The New York Times, and The New Republic. Schlick was stationed in Springfield, Illinois, in 1864-1865, and was part of the escort for President Lincoln's funeral. Papers include Civil War correspondence among Henry and his brothers; United States Army papers such as lists of deserters and African American recruits; two diaries covering 1864-1870; and personal letters of Charles Schlick discussing his grocery store (1871).
