Papers include a letter (1861) from her cousin, a Confederate soldier in Company B, 4th Louisiana Infantry, stationed on Ship Island, Mississippi, in the Civil War; a military pass (1863); and an issue of the Feliciana Democrat.   • Speeg, George. Papers, 1895-1918. 562 items, 13 ms. vols., and 45 printed vols. Location: 79:78-83. Blacksmith and wheelwright of Lobdell, West Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana. Speeg, a German immigrant, came to Port Allen, Louisiana, in the 1890s and operated a blacksmith ship on the River Road just outside of Port Allen for over 50 years.   • Speights family. Papers, 1842-1870. 1 microfilm reel, 12 photocopies. Location: MISC:S, MSS.MF:S. Stephen Alexander Speights was a resident of Lawrence County, Mississippi. Papers include family correspondence, chiefly between Lamon Speights and his son, Stephen Alexander Speights, including two Civil War letters; and a copy of birth, marriage, and death records from a Bible owned by Reverend J. D. Slay. Except for the two Civil War letters, all papers are handwritten transcriptions of the originals. Several letters from the papers are also available as photocopies. A commissary selling general merchandise was operated in association with it; Edward T. Cullom was involved with the management of both businesses. Collection consists of records and accounts of the lumber company and commissary. Loose items include correspondence, canceled checks, receipts, bills, minutes of meetings, and plats. Records include the plantation diary of Leonidas Spyker; a list of family names appearing in the diary; a sketch of the family of Sarah Mildred Gilmer, wife of Spyker; and a list of persons buried in the Spyker family vault in New Orleans.   • St. Denis, Louis Juchereau, chevalier de, 1676-1744. Division of property agreement, 1758 Mar. 8. 1 agreement. Location: Misc. Louis Juchereau de St. Denis was a Canadian-born French adventurer who established the French post at Natchitoches in 1714 and began contraband trade with the nearby Spanish colonists in Texas. This agreement divides the lands from the succession of Louis St. Denis in Natchitoches Parish, La. It describes the locations of two areas of land (27 and 11 arpents) belonging to his widow and children, some of which was retained in common for their livestock. In French. Mss. 5051.
