Most of the images cover subjects in New Orleans and Louisiana. Only two of 24 images have identifying marks: the names Charles A. Theil and John E. Theil and "N.O." are scratched in the negatives' emulsion. Charles and John Theil may have been amateur photographers associated with the New Orleans Camera Club. Mss. 4127.

Bound volume of 400 envelopes with printed caricatures of the South from the Northern point of view. Willie Sargent Smith collected the envelopes, which depict such subjects as politics, finances, trade, warfare, morals, race relations, and political leaders such as Jefferson Davis and General G. T. Letter to his wife in New England, complaining of not being able to celebrate the Sabbath properly in the army, especially in Louisiana. He notes that General Banks arrived there yesterday.
