Philip, Hicky. Letter to Fulwar Skipwith, 1810 Dec. 3. 1 item. Location: MISC:H. Letter written to Fulwar Skipwith from Philip Hicky in Baton Rouge, La. on December 3, 1810. In the letter, Philip Hicky writes to Fulwar Skipwith declining the nomination as Supreme Court judge. Hicky also mentions awaiting the arrival of Mrs. Skipwith and family, extending an invitation for them to stay with the Hicky family. Description
Perrault, M. Letter, 1788 April 30. 1 letter. Location: Misc:P. Six-page letter (in French) with English translation gives a first-hand account of the 1788 fire that destroyed a large portion of the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. Discusses his own personal loss, and that of a man named "Leveau" as a result of the fire. Moore, L. H. Letter, 4 March 1822. 1 item. Location: MISC:M. Plantation owner, judge, and notary public of St. Helena Parish. Letter written by L. H. Moore concerning a series of shortages due him on the sale of cotton and other goods committed by the New Orleans firm of Debiege and Baun. Moore then explains how he betrayed a neighbor in order to settle that man's debt due with the firm. Mss. 4880.

Croom family. Bills of sale and currency, 1825, 1839, 1863. 3 items. Location: Misc:C and Vault:4. Two slave bills of sale and one piece of 1863 Louisiana currency. The first bill of sale is dated 14 Dec. 1825, and regards the sale of a slave named Solomon to Isaac Croom for $475.00. The second bill of sale, dated 2 Sept. 1839, regards the sale of a slave named Lucy by Charles Croom to Isaac Croom for $667.00. Description
Louisiana Geological Survey. Louisiana earthquakes questionnaires and letters, 1983, 1991. 0.3 linear ft. Location: 107:18. Completed questionnaires that were submitted by Louisiana residents in response to a survey studying earthquakes that hit the state. Some questionnaires are in response to the October 16, 1983 tremor that was recorded in the area south of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Others are requests for information from residents who felt a tremor in southeast Louisiana on December 3, 1991. The 1983 study was conducted by Donald Stevenson of the Baton Rouge office of the Louisiana Geological Survey. The questionnaires were printed in newspapers and respondents provided information by indicating "yes" or "no" responses or by circling a level of activity as provided on the form. Many respondents included their addresses and attached letters to their forms. Also included are geological maps of Louisiana indicating sites of quakes and a seismogram. Mss. 4940.

The Kleinpeter family emigrated from Germany and eventually settled in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, where they were farmers. Photocopies of family documents belonging to the George and John Kleinpeter families of Louisiana. These include survey maps, land grants, land transfers, birth and death records, estate papers, receipts, and miscellaneous items. Kennedy, Kemble K., Sr. Scrapbook, 1925-1953. 1 volume. Location: W:42. Scrapbook that primarily contains clippings from several different newspapers documenting Kennedy's high school graduation, various awards and honors from Farmerville High and LSU, his ordeal with the "Whangdoodle" scandal, and several obituaries of him. It also contains one letter, a telegram from friends, a summons to appear in court, an executive order suspending him from LSU in 1930, a pledge sheet with signatures to swear to uphold the privacy of the Theta Nu Epsilon fraternity, a handwritten note from one of his ex-fraternity brothers, and a program of "Memorial Exercises before the Supreme Court of Louisiana." John B. Kellogg-Anna Kellogg letters and photograph, 1866-1869. 22 items. Location: T:100 (short shelf). New York bank cashier and his wife. Six detailed letters addressed to Anna Kellogg were written during her mother and sister’s Mississippi steamboat trip to New Orleans, Louisiana. Letters discuss the trip itself and ultimately their stay in New Orleans, including places they visited, people they met, and their impressions. 15 letters addressed to John B. Atchafalaya Rail Road and Banking Company. Letter, 1835 Apr. 15. 1 item. Location: MISC:A. Two-page letter written to "H. Niles" in which the author is requesting that Mr. Niles make mention in his newspaper of the steps Louisiana is taking to improve its railroad infrastructure, specifically mentioning the charter of the Atchafalaya Rail Road & Banking Company. The letter discusses the need for railroads in Louisiana to help farmers and ranchers with transportation, since back country roads are almost impassable.  It also goes into detail about the geography of the proposed rail site, local industry that would benefit, and the economic advantages to stockholders. Signed by Gertrude Snell Brown thanking Mr. Edgar M. Hurlburt for his contribution to their organization. Bichot, Jean Baptiste. Petition, 1781 March 29. 1 item. Location: Misc:B. Bichot was an official of the area under the jurisdiction of the post of Pointe Coupee, in Louisiana. Item is a petition to Charles de Grand-Pré,, commandant of the post of Pointe Coupee, requesting permission to inform Madame de Rocheblave to pay her debt to Sieur du Doigt. A list of her debts is included. An endorsement by Grand-Pré, approves the action, and an addendum by Bichot records Rocheblave was informed to pay the debt. In French. Document from Carondelet to Nicolas Forstall, commandant at Opelousas, letting Forstall know that Josef[?] de la Pena has presented himself in Carondelet's tribunal with a petition and an account concerning payment and placement of a borrowed slave named Pedro. Marsh, Edward N. Civil War Letter, 1862, December 18. 1 item. Location: OS:M. Edward N. Marsh was a private in the 52nd Massachusetts Infantry, which was organized at Greenfield, Mass., in October 1862. The 52nd arrived in Baton Rouge to occupy the city on December 17, 1862. In a letter to his brother and sister, Private Marsh describes the scene in Baton Rouge, including his unit's landing, soldiers' taking items from homes, the town's deserted appearance, and the conditions of "contrabands," slaves who fled to the Federal encampments in Baton Rouge.
