Blackburn, J. Letter, 1819 January 7. 1 item (2 leaves). Location: Misc:B. First officer of a ship owned by a company based in New Orleans. The ship's chandlers were Paterson & Philpot. Letter detailing Blackburn's involvement with settling his deceased captain's affairs. It comments on the need to consign the ship to another house or company and it reports the captain's debts and credits, mentioning an enclosed copy of his accounts. This copy is not included. Barr, Davenport and Murphy. Records, 1808-1810. 16 items. Location: S:43. A trading firm organized in 1798 in Nachitoches, Louisiana by William Barr and Peter Samuel Davenport, in partnership with Luther Smith and Edward Murphy. This firm freighted merchandise across from Louisiana to Texas and transported peltries, furs, and livestock back to Louisiana. Collection includes inventories of property and records of assets and liabilities of the firm Barr, Davenport and Murphy filed after the death of Edward Murphy. Reynès was Justice of the Peace for the 2nd District of New Orleans and was later appointed as director of the Louisiana State Bank. Correspondence, essays, and business papers include letters describing civilian life in occupied New Orleans during the Civil War and conditions in the Confederate army. A record book describes a business venture of Polyxene Reynès. Some items in French. Photographs include images of sugar mills, travel to Cuba, the Panama Canal, and the Mississippi River floods of 1912 and 1927.
